The future of battery recycling
The future of battery recycling holds a number of promises for the environment. Only about five percent of batteries are recycled in the world every year. If initiatives are taken to increase this number by around forty to seventy percent then a number of ideals can be achieved. Environmental awareness should be spread for battery recycling to occur in an organized way. Rotting waste needs to be disposed of properly. Rotting waste gives rise to toxic fumes and landfill gas production which has a high content of the explosive gas methane. This causes a great deal of water pollution. Liquids seeping from the waste can contaminate ground water and cause widespread ground water pollution. Run offs from landfill sites may accumulate and give rise to pollution of nearby streams and other fresh water bodies. Landfill sites cause one third of the ground water pollution that occurs in the world. For this very reason, proper disposal of waste especially battery disposal by battery recycling is essential.
